Friday fun-day!

Today in our book bags we have taken home a new poem; Floating. We looked for and circled our new words we have learnt: the and I. We also found all of the 'wide open mouth' shapes! We then practised our fine motor skills and threaded fruit loops onto string to make a necklace. Check out our new bling!

Leandro received Room 19's certificate this week for the effort he has put into his Writing. Leandro has been using creative words in his stories. Well done Leandro!!

Powhiri

Today the whole school gathered in the hall to welcome new teachers (Miss Macartney) and new students (us!) to Arahoe School! They sang us some lovely songs and we did a great job 'super listening' to the speakers.

Safe swimming

Yesterday we looked at pictures of the pool and talked about ways to stay safe when we have our swimming lessons. Have a look at the pictures and ask us about our swimming routine!

Also, if you have a daughter in room 19 please check you have the right skirt, some of them have got mixed up and we are missing one!

Rabbit indoor playland

Blog competition: draw a rabbit picture and drop it in the pink box under the whiteboard before friday 3pm and win free entry to Rabbit Indoor Playland!

Swimming stars

We have been going to swimming in 2 groups. 1 group does theory about being a safe swimmer while the other group is in the pool. Then we swap over! Today we made arm circles and played Salmon says! It was a good way to cool down after a hot lunchtime!

Sleeping Lions

Today we learnt all about floating and sinking! We tested different objects to see what would float and what would sink. We learnt that wood can float but nails sink. Next we filled up containers with different things like playdough, grass and water so some were heavy and some were light. We learnt that heavy things sink and light things float. It was all very tiring so we played a fun game of sleeping lions.

Chalk boards

We have been practising our 'Casey shapes' on chalk boards so that we will have amazing handwriting. Today we set up our own board and traced over our name in chalk.

What a busy day!

Today was a super busy day! We started off with jump jam outside then met our buddy class for the first time! We were all very excited to go to the year 5/6 class and be paired up with a new friend. They will be looking out for us in the playground.

Next we practised our colouring, cutting and glueing and made a cool looking spider as we have been reading a story about spiders this week! To top off the day we went and played in the sandpit then shared our highlights of the week. Check out the photos and leave a comment :)

Skye received Room 19's certificate this week for completing all activities with enthusiasm and a smile! Well done!!!

Finding a safe place to play

As part of our Kia Kaha programme today we learnt the difference between safe places to play and unsafe places. We learnt the importance of staying in the school boundaries and keeping playtimes a fun and happy time. We then drew smiley faces on balloons and tied them around the school in places we thought were safe!

Arahoe Orchard

 Today we went and visited our school orchard. There were lots of apples on the trees but some of the birds had eaten them leaving big holes.

Then some lucky people got to pick an apple from the tree.

We took them back to the class and Miss Black and Miss Macartney cut them up for us. They were really sour!!!

Library

Today we went to the School Library! We were allowed to take one book out that we liked. We got our library cards and put them in the envelope in our book. Then gave them to the Librarian at the desk to get them out. Our book has to be back by next Monday so that we can get a new one. We listened to Miss Black read a silly story about a monkey.

Jump Jam Star... JOSH!

Each Friday we go to the hall for Jump Jam and pick a super star who is trying their best!

Happy Valentines Day

Our busy Wednesday

Today we had a busy day doing firsts! We went to the pool after lunch and then we visited the e learning suite.

 At the pool we pretended we were monkeys and climbed along the wall of the pool. Then we made some really big waves using our bodies!

 In the e learning suite we watched a movie all about being under the sea and a diver even took a photo of us. We then went onto our schools intranet and learned a game about letters of the alphabet!

                                            We were all very tired by 3 o'clock!
 
 

Reading

Today we read the book Lunch Boxes. First we found the book cover, the spine and the back cover. Then we used our magic pointing finger to follow along and read the words. Just like the book we stacked different coloured lunch boxes on top of one another. Then Bridget knocked it over and they came smashing down! Check out our photos
